A few months back, a Christian artist messaged me on Twitter after reading something I had written about Gabe and offered to write us a song in his honor to help us grieve and move forward. She got it to me before Mother’s Day so I could give it to Valerie. I gave it to Valerie the Sunday before Mother’s Day, which is set aside as bereaved Mother’s Day. Addie listens to it each morning and night before bed. The artist did a phenomenal job weaving in special things about sweet Gabe into the song. This was such a thoughtful gift of grace from her. We didn’t know her from Eve and yet she used her God-given gifts to help serve a bereaved family. For those who want to give it a listen, here’s a video that Leah Justice made for the song.
Gabriel, with your blue eyes and chubby cheeks
You were learning to brush your four little teeth
Learning to walk and crawling everywhere
Gabey Baby, you are loved beyond compare
Gabriel Austin your smiles could light up the dark
You will always and forever be in our hearts
Our miracle baby. what a precious gift
Our love for you will never, ever end
Blonde curls and those kisses with an open mouth
I’ll remember your giggles as the sweetest sound
You adored your mama and neighborhood rides
And playing with sister Addy any time
Gabriel Austin your smiles could light up the dark
You will always and forever be in our hearts
Our miracle baby. what a precious gift
Our love for you will never, ever end
We thank the Lord every day for the time we had with you
366 days days of a dream come true
We know that God is good, and you’re in heaven’s care
We will hold you once again, Brother Bear
Gabriel Austin your smiles could light up the dark
You will always and forever be in our hearts
Our miracle baby. what a precious gift
Our love for you will never, ever end
Our miracle baby. what a precious gift
We know that we will see you again
