The world says to gather, to feast and to cheer,
But my heart holds a silence, a weight I revere.
For grief walks beside me, unbidden, unplanned,
Its shadow a constant, its grip on my hand.

Yet here, in the quiet where sorrow takes root,
I find there’s a strange, unexpected pursuit.
A whisper of gratitude softens the pain,
Like sunlight that glistens through cold autumn rain.

I grieve for your laughter, your voice, your embrace,
For the dreams left undone, for the void in your place.
But I’m grateful you lived, for the light that you brought,
For the love that you gave and the lessons you taught.

Grief is a journey, relentless, unkind,
Yet gratitude weaves through the threads of my mind.
It doesn’t erase or diminish the ache,
But it tenderly gathers the pieces that break.

So this Thanksgiving, I carry you near,
In the depth of my sorrow, in each falling tear.
I give thanks for the gift of your all-too-brief days,
For the joy you still bring in the simplest of ways.

Grief and gratitude, they walk hand in hand,
A paradox only the heart understands.
For love is the bridge where the two intertwine
The sorrow is mine, but the gratitude’s divine.
